Our initial meeting is so that I can find out a little bit about you and what you would like to achieve. It is a chance for me to explain how I work and talk to you about what you can expect from the coaching sessions. This is an opportunity for us to see if we think we would be a good fit. I will ask you questions to find out where you are now in terms of achieving your goal; what you have already tried and help you to explore what your current support options are.
So, what exactly is NLP Coaching? NLP is a set of tools and techniques that allow you to create quick, effective change.
NLP stands for 'Neuro-Linguistic Programming'. 'Neuro' refers to how we process our experiences through our five senses. 'Linguistic' is how we communicate verbally and non-verbally. 'Programming' refers to our perception or 'map' of the world and how this influences our responses and behaviour.
From our life experiences, we have each developed our own map of the world which determines our values, beliefs and feelings about things. As we grow older, our map of the world may contain unhealthy or destructive patterns of thinking that may have served us at one time but now hinder us and hold us back. NLP can help to modify or replace these patterns with more helpful and empowering ones. We are not often consciously aware of our 'map' and why we do the things we do. Our beliefs and values lie mostly outside of our awareness or in our unconscious mind. The NLP techniques help to access the unconscious mind and truly find the root of the problem to make lasting changes.
Benefits of NLP Coaching The sessions focus more on the future. You will not need to talk to me about your past or your childhood, although sometimes this is helpful.
You do not need to talk to me about the problem in detail, you just need to be able to create a picture of it in your mind as a lot of the techniques involve visualisation.
I can help you to identify blockages preventing you from achieving your goals.
The results of coaching tend to be very quick. This is because the process is participative and people tend to learn and adopt new habits more easily when they are actively engaged in the learning process.
It takes place over an extended period of time to allow you time to implement the changes discussed and is it not something that you need to commit to attending weekly.
The sessions will be helpful if you have specific goals, such as, losing weight, starting your own business or they can be helpful if you simply feel stuck. They will help you to find direction and set appropriate goals to help you to find your way again. The techniques can help with specific anxiety provoking situations, such as delivering presentations and communicating with difficult colleagues.
NLP helps to remove unhelpful beliefs you have about yourself and help to increase your self-worth and confidence.
They can also help you to get rid of unhelpful patterns of behaviour that lead to unnecessary stress, such as, pressing the snooze button repeatedly and then being late for work!
